media alert: protest at AGM

by on June 4, 2010

For Immediate Release

Friday, June 4, 2010: A group of concerned Girl Guide volunteers will be gathering at the Girl Guides of Canada Board of Director’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to protest decisions made by the organization’s Ontario Council. The grassroots volunteers, calling themselves On My Honour, are hoping to get an opportunity to speak to meeting delegates as part of the agenda.

They also want to raise awareness about ongoing and systemic issues plaguing Guiding in Ontario. Problems include a failed restructuring plan; a lack of transparency, accountability and communication from the council to volunteers; the closing and sale of camps throughout the province; and fiscal mismanagement.

The On My Honour group will stand together in solidarity at the AGM in an effort to preserve the integrity and future of Guiding in Ontario.
